Songtexte
Chorus
- Männertörn-Lied
- Banks Of Sacramento
- Haul Boys Haul
- Wellerman
Harte Männer, Raue See (Männertörnlied)
Harte Männer, rauhe See, unser Schicksal das heißt Seemannslos.
Aye-aye!
Harte Männer, raue See, unser Schicksal das heißt Seemannslos.
The Banks of Sacramento
Heave Away!
1. Oh, ‘round Cape Horn we’re bound to go,
Hoo-dah, hoo-dah
Around Cape Horn in the ice and snow.
Hoodah hoodah hee
Oh! Blow boys blow,
For Californ-i-o
There’s plenty of gold so I’ve been told
On the banks of the Sacramento.
2. Oh, ‘round Cape Horn with the skysails set,
Hoo-dah, hoo-dah
Around Cape Horn and we’re all wringing wet.
Hoodah hoodah hee
Oh! Blow boys blow,
For Californ-i-o
There’s plenty of gold so I’ve been told
On the banks of the Sacramento.
3. It’s ‘round Cape Horn in the month of May,
Hoo-dah, hoo-dah
Around Cape Horn is a bloody long way.
Hoodah hoodah hee
Oh! Blow boys blow,
For Californ-i-o
There’s plenty of gold so I’ve been told
On the banks of the Sacramento.
4. Starvation and ease on a Yankee ship,
Hoo-dah, hoo-dah
And we’re the bullies to make her rip.
Hoodah hoodah hee
Oh! Blow boys blow,
For Californ-i-o
There’s plenty of gold so I’ve been told
On the banks of the Sacramento.
5. Santander Jim is a mate from hell,
Hoo-dah, hoo-dah
With fists of iron and feet as well.
Hoodah hoodah hee
Oh! Blow boys blow,
For Californ-i-o
There’s plenty of gold so I’ve been told
On the banks of the Sacramento.
6. Oh, breast your bars and bend your backs,
Hoo-dah, hoo-dah
Heave and make your spare ribs crack.
Hoodah hoodah hee
Oh! Blow boys blow,
For Californ-i-o
There’s plenty of gold so I’ve been told
On the banks of the Sacramento.
7. Oh, ‚round Cape Horn to Frisco Bay,
Hoo-dah, hoo-dah
Around Cape Horn in ninety days.
Hoodah hoodah hee
Oh! Blow boys blow,
For Californ-i-o
There’s plenty of gold so I’ve been told
On the banks of the Sacramento.
8. Oh, it’s ninety days to Frisco Bay,
Hoo-dah, hoo-dah
Ninety days is a damn good pay.
Hoodah hoodah hee
Oh! Blow boys blow,
For Californ-i-o
There’s plenty of gold so I’ve been told
On the banks of the Sacramento.
9. So sing and heave and heave and sing,
Hoo-dah, hoo-dah
Heave and make those handspikes spring.
Hoodah hoodah hee
Oh! Blow boys blow,
For Californ-i-o
There’s plenty of gold so I’ve been told
On the banks of the Sacramento.
Haul Boys Haul
1. Now when I was a schoolboy I lived at home at ease
Now I am a trawlin‘ man, I sail the wintry seas
I thought I’d like seafarin‘ life, it’s all right ‚til I found
It’s a damned sight worse than slavery when we got on the ground
And it was Haul, boys haul. Haul, boys haul
Heave away the capstan, lads, and let’s get up the trawl
When the winds a‘ blowin‘, and ships a’ gently rollin‘
My Emma, my Emma, won’t you be true to me.
2. Now every night in winter, as regular as a clock
It’s on with your sou’wester, likewise your oilskin frock
An then up to the capstan lads, and then we’ll heave away
Well that’s the cry in the middle of the night, as well as in the day
And it was Haul, boys haul. Haul, boys haul
Heave away the capstan, lads, and let’s get up the trawl
When the winds a‘ blowin‘, and ships a’ gently rollin‘
My Emma, my Emma, won’t you be true to me.
3. Now when the fish are up on deck, and pilin‘ to our knees
We slip and slide and wonder why we ever went to sea
But then ashore we sell the catch. That’s easier to bear
For it’s beer all night in the Sailor’s Arms when we get paid our share
And it was Haul, boys haul. Haul, boys haul
Heave away the capstan, lads, and let’s get up the trawl
When the winds a‘ blowin‘, and ships a’ gently rollin‘
My Emma, my Emma, won’t you be true to me.
4. With Winter passin‘ over and Springtime comin‘ on
We go out in all weathers, no time for beer or song
For the fish don’t wait for lovers, as you might quickly find
Put on your oilskin jacket lads, and leave the girls behind.
And it was Haul, boys haul. Haul, boys haul
Heave away the capstan, lads, and let’s get up the trawl
When the winds a‘ blowin‘, and ships a’ gently rollin‘
My Emma, my Emma, won’t you be true to me.
4. And when our trip is over, hard up the tiller goes
And straightway into Yarmouth, with a big jib on her nose
And when we reach the pierhead all the girls will loudly say
Here comes our jolly trawlin‘ lads that have been so long away
And it was Haul, boys haul. Haul, boys haul
Heave away the capstan, lads, and let’s get up the trawl
When the winds a‘ blowin‘, and ships a’ gently rollin‘
My Emma, my Emma, won’t you be true to me.
My Emma, my Emma, won’t you be true to me.
Wellerman
1. There once was a ship that put to sea
And the name of that ship was the Billy o‘ Tea
The winds blew hard, her bow dipped down
Blow, me bully boys, blow (huh)
Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin‘ is done
We*ll take our leave and go
2. She had not been two weeks from shore
When down on her a right whale bore
The captain called all hands and swore
He’d take that whale in tow (huh)
Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin‘ is done
We*ll take our leave and go
3. Before the boat had hit the water
The whale’s tail came up and caught her
All hands to the side, harpooned and fought her
When she dived down below (huh)
Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin‘ is done
We*ll take our leave and go4
4. No line was cut, no whale was freed
An‘ the captain’s mind was not on greed
But he belonged to the Whaleman’s creed
She took that ship in tow (huh)
Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin‘ is done
We*ll take our leave and go55
5. For forty days or even more (ooh)
The line went slack then tight once more
All boats were lost, there were only four
And still that whale did go
Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin‘ is done
We*ll take our leave and go
6. As far as I’ve heard, the fight’s still on
The line’s not cut, and the whale’s not gone
The Wellerman makes his regular call
To encourage the captain, crew and all
Soon may the Wellerman come
To bring us sugar and tea and rum
One day, when the tonguin‘ is done
We*ll take our leave and go
